This was followed by ten days of indescribable intensity to organize the evacuation of an orphanage with babies and toddlers from Kropywnyzkyj in the heart of Ukraine to Austria.
Thanks to the initiative of kleine herzen, her partner SaveUkraine as well as the exceptional support of SeneCura and Municipality of Burgauberg-Neudauberg Sixty-three children were brought to safety.
Three years and two months They found refuge in southern Burgenland. A SeneCura hotel became far more than just accommodation: it became their home, their school, their playground, and for many, the first place where they could find some peace and security after the horrors of war.
Behind the number 63 lie moving life stories, deep traumas, but also countless signs of solidarity, courage, and humanity. An entire community dedicated itself to giving these children not only safety, but also affection, education, psychological support, and new hope.
This extraordinary human story inspired the journalist and radio writer Jan Decker, who dedicated a report to her, which was broadcast on Ö1 on June 27, 2026.
Based on the accounts of those who accompanied the children on a daily basis, the program tells of their arrival in Austria, their life in Neudauberg, the invisible wounds of war and the extraordinary commitment of all those who did not look away, but took action.
The report highlights the valuable work of educators, psychologists, caregivers, volunteers, and partners who accompanied the children during their stay. At the same time, it reveals the enormous challenges posed by the severe war trauma experienced by many of these children.
